Welcome to the London Arena

 

The London Arena was first opened in 1989 and closed at the end of 2005.  Situated in the Docklands area of London it was, for a time, the capital’s main sports and music venue up until the opening of the O2 arena (which was formerly the Millennium Dome) Maximum seating capacity was around 12500 but this varied depending on the sort of event being held there.

 

As well as playing host to many one-off events such as gigs from the likes of Duran Duran (the first band ever to play there) and the aptly named Deftones, it was also home to a number of sporting teams including the London Knights ice hockey team, the London Towers basketball team and some time later the Greater London Leopards basketball team.  Several WWF wrestling events were held there including the European Rampage Tour (1989 and again in 1991) and Capital Carnage (1998) London charity Crisis also used the venue in 2005 to provide food, accommodation and various social services to the homeless of London during the Christmas period...more
